Chelle
Goodfriend

Chelle Goodfriend has been a perinatal educator, lactation consultant,
birth doula, past president of the Childbirth Education Association
of Orange County and Past President of the Orange County Lactation Consultants
Association. Chelle has been featured in several breastfeeding videos
in both English and Spanish. She has authored several articles in perinatal
journals as well as parenting magazines. She has spoken at perinatal
conferences in the US and Mexico.
Chelle
also co-authored the ground-breaking report sponsored by the Orange
County Child Abuse Prevention Counsel on the controversial parenting
program Growing Kids God's Way (On Becoming Babywise). She has served
many families throughout the years as a Sex Educator, Mind Body Fertility
Specialist, Basic Life Support Instructor as well as providing parenting
classes.
Chelle's
initiation into the Perinatal field took place after the birth of her
first son. Like most new moms, Chelle had difficulties breastfeeding
her new baby and her mother recommended she visit a Lactation Consultant.
Chelle was so grateful for the help she received and felt the desire
to do the same. Within a few months she started attending classes at
UCLA and began her studies in Human Lactation.
After
becoming a Lactation Consultant Chelle realized that many of the breastfeeding
problems she saw could have been prevented if there were educated choices
made during labor and immediately following the birth. So her mission
to educate and inform new and expectant moms expanded and Chelle became
a Perinatal Educator where she taught thousands of couples at 4 Orange
County hospitals. Chelle also has attended several hundred births, (both
home and hospital births) as a birth doula.
While
working at a hospital with a predominately Hispanic patient population,
Chelle developed a real love for the Latino families in the community
and her desire to travel and live in Mexico was born. After much contemplation
Chelle resigned from her position as president of two local organizations
as well as from her positions at four Orange County hospitals and moved
to Mazatlan, Mexico.
While
in Mexico Chelle worked with pregnant and new moms, teaching nutrition,
pregnancy and birth preparation, baby care, breastfeeding and parenting.
She found it refreshing that many of the doctors in Mexico wholeheartedly
welcomed the use of herbs and folk remedies in conjunction with the
western medical therapies.
