Katie
Sheldon received her Masters in Public Health from Tulane University
with a specialization in Maternal and Child health. Her passion lies
with preventative health education and holistic means to addressing
health problems.
Katie
spent time in Guatemala studying with indigenous Mayan midwives and
collaborating with rural health clinics regarding maternal health issues.
She prefers to work with high-risk groups whose health status may be
disproportionately impacted by their environment. Living in New Orleans
provided ample opportunity to work with underprivileged groups lacking
access to health care and imperative health information.
She
spent many hours working with the Common Ground Clinic's 'Latino Health
Outreach Project' which addressed the specific needs of migrant workers
living in post-Katrina New Orleans. Back in California, Katie teaches
therapeutic yoga, stress reduction techniques and facilitates health
education in both English and Spanish. She is honored to be part of
the Birth Without Borders team and very excited to collaborate on future
projects which aim to improve the overall health of women and children
around the world.
